A girl quits judo after losing to someone she can't stop thinking about, then that someone walks into her classroom wanting to start a club. The show knows the real sport isn't the matches, it's the excuse two people need to keep standing across from each other. Every frame of genuine judo gets undercut by genuine friendship, and by episode three you stop caring about technique and just want them to win together.

Michi Sonoda, a cheerful middle schooler, plans to give up judo after one final tournament, much to the surprise of her teammate Sanae Takigawa. Her farewell match goes badly: she suffers an embarrassing loss in the final round to the skilled Towa Hiura. Michi wants a high school life of friends, romance and entrance exams instead of tatami mats. Then Towa turns up as her new classmate, hoping to start a judo club and in need of members. Around her rival, Michi's love for the sport starts to return in this slice-of-life sports series.
