The opening credits alone tell you everything: a shadow theater version of classic dark fairy tales, stripped down to the bone and told in a language that feels like it was written in the 1800s. Every episode is a gut punch wrapped in storybook paper, where the moral isn't "good wins" but "survival costs something." You watch these stories knowing the versions you grew up with were sanitized, and this show gives you the real weight of what the original tales were trying to warn you about. The animation is deliberately flat and archaic, which only makes the darkness hit harder when it comes. These aren't updated retellings. They're an exhumation. If you need your fairy tales to comfort you, stop here.

Fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm are told in shadow puppet animation, a different one in each episode. The shorts aired on TBS within the Chiyotarou Kodomo Gekijou program, as its third arc.
