The 1992 educational film tells the story of Japan's Elephant Trains. During World War Two, many zoos kill their dangerous animals, elephants among them, as a precaution in case Allied bombing sets them free. When the war ends, the only elephants left anywhere in Japan are two at Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya. Special Elephant Trains are then arranged to carry children from every corner of the country to the zoo. The film recounts this chapter of postwar Japanese history.
