A mother bear warns her cubs about the world. The cubs ignore her, wrestling and eating honey while a hunter closes in. The film holds that breath, the ordinary moment before everything changes, and never rushes to let it go.

On a spring day full of singing birds and dancing frogs, a mother bear sends her two sons out of their cave to play and warns them to watch out for fearsome humans. While the brothers wrestle sumo-style and enjoy some honey, a hunter takes aim at them, and it is the first time they have ever seen a person. After finding their way back to their mother, the cubs are struck by the way the human moved on two legs, so she begins teaching them to walk upright. The seasons turn from summer to deep autumn as the family practices. Once the brothers can walk like hunters, the other mountain animals take them for people and run off, but a real hunter soon puts their new skill to the test.
