The past arc finally gives you what the series has been building toward: Nanami and Tomoe's actual beginning, before she fell in love with him. Watching them collide as near-strangers, neither one ready to need the other, rewrites every scene you've already seen. While Nanami Momozono, a land god, is playing in the snow at her shrine, her fox youkai familiar Tomoe collapses as dark marks spread across his skin. His long-absent former master, Lord Mikage, returns and seals Tomoe inside a small magic mirror to hold back the illness. Mikage reveals that before they met, Tomoe loved a human woman and struck a bargain with a fallen god so he could live as a human beside her, only to end up cursed and dying. Mikage erased that love from his memory, but the curse has woken again now that Tomoe has fallen for Nanami. With no cure available, Nanami resolves to travel hundreds of years into the past to stop the curse from ever taking hold, even if it means the two of them might never meet. Spanning four episodes that adapt the manga's past arc, this supernatural romantic comedy was released alongside volumes 22 through 25 of the manga.
