Running late on your first day of work, terrified someone will discover you're obsessed with anime and manga, only to immediately run into the one person who already knows, and doesn't care. Wotakoi gets the specific exhaustion of hiding who you are in an office full of strangers, then the relief of finding people who speak your language without judgment. The romance stumbles occasionally, but the comedy lands hardest when two otaku are just existing together in the same room, not performing for anyone else.

Narumi just wants a fresh start at her new job, which means keeping one thing hidden: she's a devoted otaku and fujoshi. Her plan crumbles the moment she runs into Hirotaka, her old friend from middle school, at the office. When he casually asks whether she's going to Summer Comiket, her secret's out. Luckily, the only two coworkers who overhear, Hanako and Tarou, are otaku too. Over drinks that night, Narumi complains that her last boyfriend dumped her for being a fujoshi, and Hirotaka suggests she date a fellow otaku: him. He promises to support her and even help her farm rare drops in Monster Hunter, and she agrees on the spot. What follows is a comedy romance about the awkward relationship between two grown-up otaku.
