In Kyoto in June 1863, a soldier with no memory is brought to the headquarters of the Mibu Roshigumi. Soji Okita, an officer of the group, takes him in and names him Jinsuke Tachikawa, and Jinsuke begins a new life as one of its members. As the Roshigumi, later called the Shinsengumi, rise to prominence amid the turmoil of the late Edo period, Jinsuke and his comrades are pulled into the upheaval of the era. The original action series portrays the brief youth of the young people who lived through those turbulent times.
