Anime Like Peacemaker
A kid joins the Shinsengumi thinking revenge will fix the hole in his chest, then discovers that the samurai around him are already broken in ways he doesn't have the vocabulary to describe. SYNOPSIS
Fifteen-year-old Tetsunosuke carries a singular obsession: revenge against the Choushuu clan for slaughtering his parents. Desperate to gain the strength he lacks, he throws himself at the Shinsengumi, one of Kyoto's most brutal militia groups during Japan's turbulent final years of the shogunate. They're warriors who kill without hesitation, who prioritize order above all else, and Tetsunosuke wants in. What he doesn't realize is that joining their ranks means confronting his own inability to become that kind of person. While his older brother Tatsunosuke and fellow recruits accept the moral weight of their work, Tetsunosuke struggles against his conscience every single day. Each mission chips away at who he is, forcing him to choose between the driven teenager seeking vengeance and the person who might still have a soul left to save. Peacemaker balances action-heavy combat sequences with genuinely funny character moments, creating something that swings between brutal violence and warm camaraderie. It's a show about what happens when an idealistic kid discovers that strength demands a cost he's not sure he's willing to pay.
