The animation doesn't service the narrative because there is no narrative to serve, only the pure physics of two mobile suits meeting in space the way forty years of fans imagined it. Set in U.C. 0079, this short ONA opens as a squad of Zakus from the Principality of Zeon attacks a neutral space colony. Amuro Ray unwillingly takes the controls of a prototype mobile suit, the Gundam G40, to push back the assault. He must also face Char Aznable, Zeon's ace, in his custom red Zaku II. Made for the franchise's 40th anniversary to promote the Gundam G40 model kit, it reimagines well-known scenes from the original Gundam television series as a brief burst of sci-fi mecha action.
