Komi's silence is funnier the second time around because you already know what her deadpan stare means. Tadano stops being a plot device and becomes the actual person watching her sabotage herself, which is where the real comedy lives. The show knows it doesn't need to go anywhere, it just needs to be exactly what it is: two people slowly figuring out they don't have to perform for each other.

Fresh off an eventful cultural festival, Shouko Komi keeps working toward her goal of making one hundred friends, with her classmate and friend Hitohito Tadano at her side. When winter arrives, the class gains Makoto Katai, a student who looks like a delinquent and has missed school since the first week. Behind his scary appearance, Katai struggles to communicate and simply wants to be friends with his classmates. As new bonds form and old ones grow stronger, the relationship between Komi and Tadano starts to shift. The second season is a romantic slice-of-life comedy.
