This is military fiction that swings for the fences: thirty-two episodes of relentless alternate-history warfare built on the premise that Japan's greatest admiral gets a second chance to wage war differently. JC Staff burned ten years of production effort into something that refuses to apologize for its ambition, delivering 45-minute episodes that feel like they're trying to contain something too big to fit. The show's weakness is also its conviction: it loves the machinery of naval combat more than it questions what it's depicting, which means you're either watching a meticulous war fantasy or something that makes you deeply uncomfortable. Either way, you're watching something that few anime have ever attempted at this scale.
