A cat under a kotatsu confronting the existential crisis of an unreachable remote is somehow the most relatable problem in anime. The show doesn't move because it doesn't have to, every frame is a perfectly observed moment of pure, unambitious comfort. Animation carries everything here; the way the cat shifts weight, how light falls through winter air, the texture of that blanket. A lazy cat has settled in comfortably under a kotatsu, the low heated table that Japanese households use to stay warm through the winter.
