Kasuga Katakura stands at the threshold of an arranged marriage she never wanted, a sacrifice to save her crumbling family's reputation. A shadowy government organization called Fukurou emerges from the darkness, revealing a hidden truth: certain books possess supernatural power to corrupt and destroy anyone who reads them. These Maremono are dangerous enough on their own, but Kasuga discovers something stranger still. She can now see auras that cling to these cursed volumes, sensing the malevolent intentions locked within their pages. Trapped between duty and mystery, Kasuga joins Fukurou's team of handlers and fellow agents to hunt down Maremono before they claim more victims. Surrounded by men with their own secrets and scars, she begins to understand that her brother's death was no accident. In a Japan where the Taisho era refuses to end, danger wears the face of literature, and salvation might come from the last place she expected.
