This movie is animation you feel in your chest. Every frame is built to make you believe Slumberland exists, that you could fall asleep tonight and wake up there. The story stumbles trying to match what the visuals promise, but the landscapes alone are worth the trip, they move like nothing else from 1989, like a dream that learned how to draw itself. A kid discovers he belongs somewhere impossible, and for ninety minutes you believe it too.

A boy named Nemo drifts into sleep and travels to Slumberland, a dreamlike realm of enchanted lands. With the help of his flying pet squirrel Icarus and his friend Professor Genius, he makes the journey and is warmly received by the people there. The King adopts Nemo, names him heir to the throne, and entrusts him with the royal Scepter and a mysterious key. Nemo is warned never to open one particular door, which has the power to destroy Slumberland, but temptation wins out. A black cloud of nightmares sweeps over the once peaceful land, and the King is abducted. To set things right and bring the King back, Nemo must gather his friends and venture deep into Nightmare Land. The film is a fantasy adventure based on Winsor McCay's classic comic strips.
