In mid-19th-century Britain, young inventor Ray comes from a well-known family of inventors and spends his days in Manchester helping at factories and building his own contraptions. Not long before the first Great Exhibition, a package arrives from his grandfather Lloid in the United States containing the Steam Ball, a strange device that hides a dangerous power. Men from the O'Hara Foundation soon force their way into his home to take it. Ray flees toward his grandfather's colleague, Robert Stephenson, and tries to learn the ball's secret while seemingly everyone around him wants to seize it. The film is an action-packed sci-fi adventure with a dramatic core.
