The moment Ryoma realizes who Izumi actually is, the show flips from cute meet-cute into something that actually understands why people fall for the wrong version of someone. The romantic comedy doesn't just land jokes, it lands them between two characters with real chemistry and competing needs that don't resolve into a neat box. Fair warning: the show's idea of romance includes a scene that treats coercion as endearing, and it never questions the dynamic where one person has to become "the girl" for the relationship to work. If you can sit with that, the rest is genuinely charming.

Izumi Sena comes from a family of celebrities: his mother is an actress, his father works in the business and his older brother fronts a popular rock band. Izumi, though, is a nerdy college student and otaku who loves the manga Magical Girl Lala Lulu and wants to become a manga artist himself. As a child he appeared in a single commercial for a wedding magazine. Ten years later the magazine plans an anniversary ad and wants the original child actors back. Izumi is pulled onto the set, put in a dress, and reunited with Ryoma Ichijo, now a popular actor. Because of Izumi's feminine looks and unisex name, Ryoma has spent a decade in love with the girl he thought starred beside him. Finding out that girl was a boy does not change how Ryoma feels, and the result is a comedic romance.
