The moment Alto chooses, everything you thought you understood about who deserves to be saved gets torn open. Ranka's voice carries hope while Sheryl's fades, except the show knows that's a lie, that both women are being used as weapons, that their humanity is being erased by the very people who claim to love them. This is a film about the cost of singing the world into existence, and it makes you choose whether you're complicit in that cost too.

Continuing directly from the previous film, Ranka's singing career takes off, while Sheryl's health declines quickly after she collapses on stage during a concert. Behind the scenes, separate factions scheme to use the voices of both singers to gain control over the Vajra swarm. As the whole Macross Frontier fleet launches its final war against the Vajra, Alto at last decides between Ranka and Sheryl. The second Macross Frontier movie blends mecha action, music, romance and science fiction.
