The opening concert sequence is so gorgeously animated it sets a trap: you think you're watching a music anime, then it pivots into magical girl action and never looks back. Every fight is scored like a stage performance, guitars and orchestras swelling as the girls transform, which means combat feels less like violence and more like an extended music video. The animation crashes hard after episode one and the plot logic crumbles under any scrutiny, but by then the OST has already hooked something in you that doesn't need the story to make sense.

Hibiki and Miku are ordinary high schoolers at Lydian Music Academy, a prestigious institution where their idol Tsubasa Kazanari also studies. Tsubasa secretly fights the deadly alien Noise with a symphogear, an ancient weapon powered by song. Two years after a Noise attack at a concert left a fragment of a symphogear inside her, Hibiki is caught in another attack. While saving a young girl, she awakens that power. Still grieving her lost partner Kanade, Tsubasa must learn to fight alongside Hibiki to defend humanity. The series blends magical girl transformations and music with action, drama and science fiction.
