The abyss doesn't care that you've seen this before, it breaks you differently when you watch it compressed, when every step down feels like a choice made all over again. The new scenes don't explain themselves to strangers; they're gifts for the people who already know what Riko is walking toward. Bondrewd stops being a monster in the margins and becomes something worse: a father making the same descent, and you watch Riko understand that symmetry the way the abyss understands its children.

Riko's resolve to reach the Abyss's bottom grows stronger as the mystery around her mother's death deepens and she learns more about where she came from. Leaving Ozen's Seeker Camp with Reg, she heads down into the dangerous Third Layer, where she suffers the Curse for the first time. On the Fourth Layer, an Orbed Piercer wounds and poisons her arm, and Reg struggles to save her until Nanachi steps in to help. Nanachi then joins the pair on their journey toward the bottom. The movie is a compilation of episodes 9 through 13 of the 2017 television series, blending adventure, fantasy, mystery and horror.
