Magical girl transformation is supposed to be a fantasy. Spec-Ops Asuka treats it like a conscription notice, one that marks you for trauma before you ever fight. These girls don't save the world because they're chosen, they save it because nobody else can, and the show spends twelve episodes proving exactly what that costs them.

Three years ago, bloodthirsty beings from another dimension called the Disas swept across Earth, and ordinary weapons proved useless against them. Humanity's last hope lay with humans who became magical girls through an alliance with the Spirit Realm. The survivors of that war became known as the Magical Five. After the victory the squad split up: four members stayed in military service on their own, while their leader, Asuka Ootorii, retired and enrolled in high school. Her peace does not last. Enemy survivors surface, and because magic can only be met with magic, Asuka is drawn back into combat as a worse battle approaches. Adapted from a seinen manga, the series mixes magical girl action with drama, horror and ecchi elements.
