The final race day at Manazuru strips away everything except the drive itself. Kanata's hidden injury forces him into the kind of desperation that makes you forget he's supposed to be the rookie, while Becken and the field wage their own wars up front. Episodes 3 and 4 hit harder than anything the series has attempted before, the kind of racing sequences that exist in their own space, separate from every Initial D comparison that ever mattered. The second half rewards the patience the first half asks for. This is where MF Ghost finally knows what it is.
Round 3 of the MFG competition reaches its final race day at the Peninsula Manazuru track. Rookie Kanata Katagiri starts right at the front of the grid, but an injury his rivals know nothing about keeps him from getting the best out of his Toyota 86 GT. As he slips further back, his struggle brings painful memories to the surface. Up front, the two leading drivers, Michael Beckenbauer and Kouki Sawatari, fight fiercely for first place with reckless, prideful driving that leaves little room for anyone hoping to pass them. When Kanata seems out of the running, a fighting spirit awakens in him that could carry him past his physical limits and back into contention. The third season of this racing sports series is adapted from a manga by Shuuichi Shigeno.
