Excalibur is indiscriminate. It keeps choosing new Arthurs, flooding the world with sword-wielders who have no business having power, and the show finds comedy gold in six of them bickering their way through a rebellion that doesn't need this many heroes. The premise is stupid in the exact way that makes you want to see what happens when you give a comedy team unlimited permission to pile on absurdity. Each Arthur is convinced they're the legitimate one. Watching them fail spectacularly together, constantly undermining each other's plans, is the entire joke, and it lands because the show commits fully to the chaos instead of pretending any of it matters.

The legendary sword Excalibur grants tremendous power, along with the name Arthur, to anyone it judges worthy, but it hands out that honor far too freely. When a divine miracle spawns multiple Excaliburs and distorts time itself, six Arthurs named Danchou, Renkin, Kakka, Yamaneko, Tekken and Rurou are sent back to the moment the abnormal swords appeared. Their one task is to destroy every one of those past Excaliburs, a million in all, and set time back on its proper course. Their journey takes them to England to bring down the corrupt leadership afflicting their country and the world. Adapted from Square Enix's online role-playing game, the ten-episode series mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy.
