A kid who can level city blocks just wants to be invisible at school, and season two proves that quiet desperation is funnier and sadder than any explosion. The animation doesn't just support the story, it becomes the story, stretching and snapping to show you exactly what Mob feels when he can't say it. By the finale, you realize the show spent thirteen episodes building a character so real that his power stops mattering the moment he stops running from himself.
Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama is an eighth grader who hopes for nothing more than a normal life, yet he is also an enormously powerful psychic who can vanish into a crowd in an instant. Feelings keep quietly building inside him toward an eventual explosion. Alongside his mentor Reigen Arataka, he still handles clients' supernatural requests, from exorcising evil spirits to dealing with urban legends, but he no longer simply trails behind Reigen. The mysterious group Claw once again stands in his way, and the dangers the pair face grow more real and unsettling, giving the season a darker, more serious tone. The show mixes action, comedy and slice-of-life moments with psychological drama.
