A kid rejected by baseball gets handed a speedboat and figures out he's been training for the wrong dream the whole time. The racing sequences actually move, they feel like speed instead of looking like speed. By the time he's chasing his ex-girlfriend's promise across Japan's water, you've stopped thinking about boats and started thinking about second chances that only make sense if you're desperate enough to take them.

Tadano Kenji dreams of playing professional baseball, but he is too short to make it. His baseball coach suggests a different direction instead: professional speedboat racing. Kenji later runs into an old girlfriend by chance, and the two make a pact. She will stay faithful to him, and in return he must become the best racer in Japan within three years. Along the way Kenji comes up with a boat maneuver of his own, the Monkey Turn, which he dreamed up while visiting her. The move gives him a real edge over other racers, but the open question is whether it will be enough to carry him to the top. The 25-episode sports series is adapted from Kawai Katsutoshi's manga, which ran in Weekly Shounen Sunday.
