Araragi is gone, and that absence rewires the entire show around the people he saved. The monologues get quieter because they're finally allowed to be about something other than his obsession with himself. What remains is pure character archaeology: these girls excavating who they actually are when the protagonist stops being the center of their gravity.

Koyomi Araragi's high school chapter closes, but the supernatural world he inhabited refuses to stay buried. The girls he saved carry their own unresolved weights, and new problems and curses still plague them after he leaves for university. Off & Monster Season shifts focus entirely: these are no longer stories about the boy who played hero. Instead, the series moves between past and future, offering prequels and sequels to the girls' own struggles. Yotsugi Ononoki, a former corpse turned living doll, moves into the Araragi home to watch over his sister Tsukihi and takes up his old job as the town's occult specialist. Among those she helps is Nadeko Sengoku, a middle schooler recovering from her own paranormal ordeals who stays home from school to chase her dream of drawing manga professionally. When Yotsugi persuades her to make four copies of herself, each embodying a different side of her personality, the clones run off into town instead of helping. Nadeko must track them down and face her own divided sense of self.
