A shut-in writer finds a stray cat, brings him home, and the cat saves his life without either of them knowing it yet. The show switches between Subaru's perspective and the cat's, and by episode three you realize they're both lonely in exactly the same way, just in different languages. It's a show about two broken things learning that existing near someone else is sometimes enough, that you don't have to be fixed to matter to another life.
Subaru writes mystery novels for a living, but human interaction drains him. People interrupt his creative flow, getting in the way of the imaginary worlds he builds on the page. When he comes across a stray cat and feels a spark of inspiration, he brings it home to serve as his muse. Subaru hopes the animal's puzzling behavior might give him material for a new book. Yet he has never looked after anyone, and he barely manages to look after himself. The cat, used to a hard life on the streets, appreciates the steady meals but soon notices how hopeless her new owner is. Told from the viewpoint of both man and cat, this gentle slice of life comedy shows two unlikely companions slowly learning to understand each other and share their days.
