You're watching two people who've known each other forever finally figure out what that means. The movie doesn't rush it, it lets them fumble through art school, run a small flea market business, and orbit each other while their friends spin around them. By the end, you understand why sometimes the person next door is the person you were always looking for.

Mikako and Tsutomu have lived next door to each other since childhood, and both now attend an art school. There, Mikako is working toward her dream of becoming a fashion designer. Together with several friends, the two start a club called Akindo, which takes part in flea markets and sells what its members make: clothing, dolls and pieces of art. The film is a comedy, drama and romance that offers an alternate version of how the original series begins, reworking material from chapters 23 and 24 of the story.
