SYNOPSIS
A drowsy fisherman heads to the shore for an ordinary day of casting lines and killing time. When a mysterious woman emerges from the waves, she beckons him deeper into the water, revealing herself as an ancient turtle spirit. She carries him down beneath the surface to an impossible kingdom where fish and squid build cities and courts of breathtaking scale. Underwater palaces overflow with music and dancing. Kimono-clad attendants welcome him as a honored guest, pouring sake and pressing gifts into his hands. Performers pirouette across grand halls while musicians play enchanting melodies. The boundary between dream and reality dissolves as the man surrenders to the ocean's hospitality, unsure whether he's stumbled into legend or simply hasn't woken from sleep. This early animated feature captures the magic of classical Japanese folklore through hand-drawn fantasy, blending live-action ocean footage with lush cartoon sequences.
