Anime Like Shiranuhi
A boy with nothing builds his whole world around a goddess who might not even be real. When that world collapses, the film doesn't flinch away from what that costs him. SYNOPSIS
In late summer 1996, a ten-year-old boy named Minato clings to survival in a quiet Kumamoto coastal town with an alcoholic father who offers nothing but instability and pain. His only refuge is Ben-chan, a goddess who takes the form of a young girl and appears on nearby Benten Island. With her, Minato finds moments of peace, brief windows where he feels whole. When social services threaten to separate them and send him away to a children's home, Minato spots something extraordinary above the ocean: Shiranuhi, a mysterious light that legend says grants wishes to those desperate enough to ask. In his desperation and rage toward his father, Minato makes a plea. What begins as a simple wish transforms into something darker, something with teeth. This supernatural tale examines how childhood pain can curdle into something terrible, how salvation can wear different faces, and what price comes when the powerless finally gain the power to change their world.
