Goro Kumagaya is a tall, accomplished middle-school goalkeeper who hopes to enter Yokonan High, a school known for one of the top football clubs. An accident ruins that plan, and he ends up at Kawasaki High, a low-ranked school across from Yokonan. There he meets Shingo, Hideki and Kazuhito Oda, all skilled footballers. Together in the Kawasaki football club, they take on Yokonan and every other school in their way as they work to improve and become champions. Each setback becomes a chance to grow, and one of these leads to the discovery that Goro has a natural gift as an ace striker.
