A goblin boy receives a red handball from his father, only to be shocked when he learns it was picked up in front of the house of a girl named Yuki. He decides to give it back. The next morning he runs through the snow to a village, where many boys and girls are singing happily. At a small house he finds a girl sitting by herself on the veranda. She introduces herself as Yuki, and he hands her the ball without saying who he is. She is delighted, explaining that she had been searching for it and that her sickly mother made it for her. Her thanks puts him at ease, and the two become friends. Based on the children's fairy tale Yuki Usagi, this fantasy film tells of an unusual friendship between a human girl and a goblin boy, with warmth, compassion and family values at its heart.
