A boy who refuses to accept his mother is gone travels through impossible lands with a talking rabbit and a giant, each obstacle another way the world tells him to stop looking. A grieving boy-god named Susanoo ignores his father's warnings and sets out to find his late mother, Izanami, who is said to have gone to the heavens. With a small talking rabbit named Akahana and Taitanbo, a strong but kindly giant from the Land of Fire, he pushes past obstacle after obstacle on a long voyage. In Izumo Province he befriends Princess Kushinada, whose family has already lost seven daughters as sacrifices to Orochi, a fearsome eight-headed serpent. Susanoo resolves to protect her and slay the beast. The film is a mythological adventure drawn from Japanese legend.
