The romance works because neither character waits for plot permission to doubt their orders. Iska and Alice meet as assassins meant to kill each other, recognize the rot in their war immediately, and spend the entire season caught between loyalty and the person standing across from them. The hundred-year conflict becomes background noise the moment they realize they're on the same side.

For over a century, the technologically advanced Empire has fought the Nebulis Sovereignty, a nation founded by astral mages who fled the Empire's persecution. Iska, a gifted young knight, spent a year in prison for freeing a captive witch. The Empire then releases him on one condition: he must hunt down the feared Ice Calamity Witch, Aliceliese Lou Nebulis XI, princess of the rival nation. Iska accepts, hoping to end the war, and Alice wants peace too. When they meet on the battlefield, each begins to doubt their mission. He is struck by her beauty and dignity, and she is moved by his strength. Growing closer would make them traitors to their own countries, and this action fantasy romance follows two sworn enemies whose bond keeps deepening.
