Gene and crew diving to the ocean floor for dragon scales, then immediately getting hunted by something that shouldn't exist. The show stops pretending to be a space western for two episodes and just lets you watch these people get in over their heads doing exactly what they'd do anyway. Outlaw Star's specials are the episodes that prove the series was never really about saving the galaxy, just about a captain who'd trade his ship's safety for the next payday and a crew weird enough to follow him there.
Gene and his crew return for two standalone episodes that never aired on television and were first released on the eighth and twelfth VHS volumes. In the first, they take a job recovering a shipment of Dragonite from the depths of the water planet Heifong VII, where a dangerous creature guards the cargo. In the second, they land on a vacation planet known for its hot springs, but Gene has no plans to relax: he needs caster shells and goes looking for the wizards who can make them. Both episodes mix action, adventure, comedy and ecchi in a sci-fi setting.
