A steel-type legendary that can only stay awake for seven days becomes a kid's best friend, and the movie doesn't waste time pretending this needs to be complicated. Jirachi itself is so genuinely charming that you stop caring the plot doesn't hold up to scrutiny, this one exists to let you watch Max and a mythical Pokémon bond over wishes and stardust. Satoshi, Haruka, Takeshi and Masato arrive at the festival of the Wishing Star of Seven Nights, held as the Millennium Comet returns to the sky and is said to grant the wishes of everyone who sees it. At a magic show put on by the Great Butler, Masato hears a strange voice coming from a cocoon the magician keeps. When the legendary Jirachi wakes, it befriends Masato, but their time together lasts only the few days the comet remains overhead. Jirachi can grant any wish, so many people want its power, and Butler plans to use it to bring back the ancient Groudon, unaware of the dangers hidden in Jirachi's abilities. The friends must stop him and rescue Jirachi before Groudon returns to bring destruction to the land. This sixth film in the franchise blends action, adventure, comedy, drama and fantasy.
