The outer guardians finally breathe as characters instead of silhouettes, and Nehelenia stops being a villain and becomes someone you understand the moment her backstory hits. The animation catches up to what the original manga was always trying to show you. Part 2 knows it inherited a mess from Part 1 and moves twice as fast, which means you're finally watching Sailor Moon instead of waiting for it to start.

The Dead Moon Circus tightens its grip on Earth as nightmares keep spreading and the planet sinks deeper into darkness. After a total solar eclipse, young Hotaru Tomoe begins aging at an alarming rate, and the Outer Sailor Guardians sense trouble. Believing their prince and princess are in danger, the four awaken their powers again to join their fellow Guardians. Meanwhile the eclipse weakens Usagi and Mamoru, draining their powers and leaving the Guardians without a leader. Fed up, Hotaru and Chibiusa head out alone to face the Amazoness Quartet, while Queen Nehelenia's release draws near. This second film of a two-part adaptation of the Dream arc blends magical girl fantasy, drama and romance.
