A bored Heian prince steals a demon's power stick and lands in modern Tokyo, where the worst part of his new life isn't the culture shock, it's that three incompetent demons keep trying to get it back and somehow become his best friends instead. The show treats time-travel fish-out-of-water as an excuse for pure silliness: Ojarumaru speaks formal classical Japanese to convenience store clerks, the demons are too goofy to be threatening, and nobody cares about the actual plot because hanging out with these people is better than going home. It's a show that understands comedy doesn't need conflict, it needs a weirdo in the wrong time period and three lovable failures chasing him forever.
A young noble from the Heian period named Ojarumaru escapes his tedious life of privilege by stumbling upon a magical staff and catapulting himself a thousand years into the future. In the present day he is befriended by a boy named Kazuma and becomes part of his family. The staff belongs to Enma, king of demons, and three demons named Akane, Kisuke and Aobee stole it before losing it. Now they chase Ojarumaru to win it back, and their failed attempts supply much of the comedy. Along the way he makes plenty of new friends. The result is a lighthearted, silly fantasy comedy in short episodes.
