Nobody talks about this one. The OVA exists in the gap before U-17 starts, which means it gets to do something the TV series never could: strip away the tournament structure and just let these characters breathe as a real team. You get Tezuka and Echizen actually talking to each other off-court, Fuji being genuinely unhinged without needing a match to justify it, the whole cast in scenarios where the pressure valve is off. Rikkai's Yukimura and Sanada clash as their shared past comes to light, and Shitenhouji's Kenya and Shiraishi settle feelings left over from the previous year's Nationals. Other episodes turn lighter: a dispute over the camp's purpose is decided by table tennis, and a storm that shrinks the food supply sends everyone chasing Horio for a bag meant for Ryouma.
