Anime Like Ranma ½: Nihao My Concubine
The island kidnapping plot doesn't hold up, and it knows it, the movie banks entirely on you already loving these characters enough to watch them riff for ninety minutes. Mousse finally gets a story that isn't just "pathetic comic relief," which means fans invested in him actually get something. The animation during the action sequences is genuinely sharp for 1992, even when the premise underneath is running on fumes.
SYNOPSIS
A tropical storm wrecks Kuno's luxury yacht, leaving Ranma, Akane, and their crew stranded on an uncharted island. What begins as a simple survival situation turns sinister when the girls vanish one by one, whisked away by Prince Toma, ruler of the mystical floating kingdom of Togenkyo. His motive is ruthless: a magical spring on his island transforms anyone who touches it into a man, so he needs brides to maintain his population. Ranma sees opportunity in catastrophe. That same magical water could reverse his own curse, the one that turns him into a woman whenever cold water hits him. But rescuing Akane and the others means entering Togenkyo's lethal martial arts tournament, where he'll face increasingly absurd opponents and obstacles. This film cranks up Ranma's signature blend of slapstick comedy and genuine action.
