Ryoko walks into a room and the whole show lifts. She's sharp enough to solve the case, funny enough that you forget there was one, and wounded enough in ways the script never explains that you keep watching just to understand her better. The supernatural mystery wraps around her like a suit she wears to work, but the real case is always Ryoko herself, and the show knows exactly how much of her to reveal before pulling back.

Ryoko Yakushiji is a 27-year-old investigator with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police who speaks several languages and holds a degree from the elite law department of Tokyo University. Her job brings her one strange case after another, many of them involving supernatural creatures. On top of the otherworldly threats, she has to contend with her rival Yukiko Muromachi, a fellow police investigator who matches her in both talent and beauty. Adapted from the light novels by Tanaka Yoshiki with illustrations by Kakinouchi Narumi, the 13-episode TV series blends mystery with the supernatural.
