The earlier weapon is Lieutenant Mizuki, a seasoned soldier who volunteered for the experimental procedure after her injuries kept her from combat. She sees Chise as foolish and weak, but as the only other person to undergo the procedure, she can hear Chise's thoughts and understands her like no one else. As the war goes on, Mizuki learns more about Chise, about the ultimate weapons and about herself. The two OVA episodes reveal a side of the story the TV series left untold.
