A battle android with a year left to live decides to spend it as a maid in a teenage boy's house instead of saving the world. The show genuinely means this setup, never winks at it, and somehow makes you believe a killer robot learning to cook and do laundry is more important than humanity's survival. It's simultaneously ridiculous and sincere in a way that only early-2000s anime could pull off, balancing genuine tenderness against constant perversion without ever deciding which one it actually is.
A combat android named Mahoro has spent her existence fighting alien invaders for Vesper, a secret organization. Her remaining operating time is nearly gone, but there is a way to stretch it to just over a year: give up fighting and live as an ordinary person. She chooses to spend that time as the maid of Suguru Misato, a very messy high school boy living alone in the big house his late parents left him. Their first meeting comes when she rescues him from thugs who take over his bus. Mahoro builds bonds with Suguru and his friends through lively everyday moments, a blend of comedy, romance and sci-fi with ecchi touches. Yet she keeps her real reasons for serving him hidden, and their pasts may be more connected than Suguru knows.
