If you've already fallen for School Rumble's cast, these OVAs are the side quests that justify why you loved them in the first place. The shorts feel scattered until you realize that's the point, they're the moments the show couldn't fit, the ones that explain why Harima's an idiot and why it matters. Comedy timing stays sharp, but you're watching for the character beats that weren't earned anywhere else, the small crushes and stupid decisions that make these people feel real instead of just funny.

Between the chaos of the main series, School Rumble's misfits find themselves in situations that feel both ridiculous and oddly sincere. These two OVA episodes gather comedic shorts set in the gaps of the first series: Harima plays the hero in a prehistoric mammoth hunt, Imadori sets his sights on a tomboy, and Yakumo, between clairvoyant moments and cat naps, becomes friends with an exchange student named Sarah. A blackout leaves Yakumo helping Kenji with his manga by candlelight, and a trip to the hot springs sends imaginations running wild. The real heat comes when seating charts become weapons of romantic anxiety. Tenma hopes desperately to land a seat beside her crush, while a certain bad boy frets over sitting next to her. If you loved School Rumble's juggling act of romance and absurd humor, these shorts offer more of that balance.
