Rio is still carrying two ghosts at once, and Season 2 doesn't let him put either one down. The show builds on what Season 1 earned: that his dual past isn't a gimmick to overcome, it's the reason he's still fighting. By the time this season ends, you'll understand why someone who died twice can't afford to lose again.

Rio lives with two sets of memories: those of the orphan who fought to survive in the slums, and those of Haruto Amakawa, a young man from Japan who died in an accident. Having fled the capital of the Beltrum Kingdom alongside his former teacher Celia Claire and his bonded spirit Aishia, he soon faces fresh trouble when several people from his earlier life in Japan turn up scattered across this new world. Rio hurries to rescue a small group and takes them into his care, and among them is Miharu Ayase, Haruto's childhood friend. Others were summoned too, so with old friends and new allies beside him, Rio sets out to find the rest and to look for a way to return them to Japan. Through it all, he keeps his central aim in view: revenge for his mother's death. The season mixes fantasy action with drama and romance.
