The core idea here is childhood friends reuniting through a game to process a death they never properly mourned. That hits different when the show actually lets them talk to each other instead of spiraling into manufactured angst. The problem is it borrows the entire skeleton from Anohana and SAO without earning either one's emotional weight, and by episode 12 the actual plot just stops, no resolution, no escalation, just a pause button.
Haruto logs into Reunion, a renewed version of Union, the popular online RPG he played as a child. Six years ago, a death inside the game ended Union's service, and his childhood friends from the legendary party Subaru drifted apart. In the new game he meets Asahi, a former Subaru member who should have died back then. Is she an electronic ghost, or something else? To find out, the old party members come together again and enter the mysterious and deadly game, where a promise they once made as children begins to play out.
