A broken family finds each other in a video game without knowing it, and the show breaks you when they finally do. The animation shifts so radically between the real world and the game that you're watching two different stories at once, and that split IS the story. It stumbles hard in the final stretch, but by then it's already remade you.

In the online game "Planet," four players make up a formidable team called the Akabane Family, a pretend family that exists only inside the game. What none of them realize is that they are an actual family in real life, and a broken one. A reclusive older brother. An overachieving younger sibling. A father his own children do not respect. A mother who neglects her household. None of them has known real family warmth, and they do not see that the closeness they share online is fleeting. The story follows the Akabane Family through battles with monsters, clashes with rival guilds, and the schemes surrounding Black Bird, the game's ultimate goal, until events pull the real world and this real family into the story. The result is a psychological fantasy drama with action set in an immersive VR game.
