Adapted from a children's book by Yoshie Kawaura, this short slice-of-life series centers on Shiba-wanko, a Shiba Inu, and Miike-nyanko, a calico cat, who share a classic Japanese-style house complete with a tokonoma alcove. Shiba-wanko is gentle and hardworking and takes care of the cooking, cleaning and laundry. Miike-nyanko is moody and has little talent for chores. Side by side, the pair learn the manners and customs of Japanese life: how to welcome guests properly, how to get ready for the New Year, and how to enjoy wearing a kimono. Each episode focuses on one topic connected to living by "wa," the Japanese spirit of peace and harmony, as the seasons change.
