Shy stops apologizing for being a hero and starts deciding what that actually means. Season 2 trusts you to sit with characters who want different things, who can't all be right, who fight anyway because someone has to protect what's left. By the time Tokyo vanishes, you're not watching a girl save the day, you're watching her choose who she wants to become, and it costs her something real.

After her fight against the Amalareik, an organization led by the mysterious boy Stigma, Shy has matured a little. Out of costume she is Teru Momijiyama, who goes back to everyday life in Tokyo while still secretly rescuing people as Japan's hero. Walking through the city after school, she meets Ai Tennouji, a girl who fled her ninja village to track down a member of the Amalareik, and the two quickly become friends. Then Tokyo is suddenly swallowed by a black sphere and disappears, and the heroes are sent to save it.
