Sakuragi getting humbled over and over again never stops being funny because the show commits completely to his suffering. This isn't filler that feels like filler, it's the same comedy DNA from the series, just compressed into two hours where every possession becomes another reason to watch this kid fail spectacularly. If you loved Shohoku's chemistry when they weren't fighting for their lives, this is what that energy looks like when there's room to breathe.

Shohoku's basketball team is coming off a hard-fought defeat against powerhouse Kainan High. Soon after, the squad and a freshly shaven Hanamichi Sakuragi receive a challenge to an exhibition game from Ryoukufu High, a school with almost no basketball reputation. Coach Anzai views the match as a chance for his players to win back their confidence. But Ryoukufu turns out to have put together a new roster of championship-level players, and the supposed warm-up may become Sakuragi and his teammates' toughest challenge so far. The film is a sports story that mixes comedy and drama.
