Spooky Kitaro: The Obake Nighter is a 1997 movie spun off from the 1996 Gegege no Kitaro TV anime. Like the other 1990s Kitaro mini-movies, it revisits a story the franchise has told before, in this case the baseball tale from the very first episode of the 1968 original series. It gives that story a noticeably different treatment. The film blends sports, comedy, fantasy and supernatural horror.
